On Wednesday, during question period in the House of Commons, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was asked when his government will introduce legislation to protect children online.

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh raised the query in light of the recent tragedy where a 12-year-old Prince George, B.C. boy died by suicide due to facing sextortion — a threat to leak personal sexual content to the internet. Singh claimed the Liberals promised to usher in this legislation early on when taking office.

Trudeau called the incident a "tragedy" but went on to say the government's "action or inaction" shouldn't be associated with the outcome of the incident.
