Several European nations halt UK flights over new COVID strain

Several European countries have banned flights to and from the United Kingdom and others were considering such action, all in hopes of blocking a new strain of coronavirus sweeping across southern England from establishing a strong foothold on the continent.
The area has been put at Tier 4, the highest level of restrictions as the new variant of COVID-19 is thought to be more contagious.
Travellers on Sunday raced to beat the Sunday deadline before the new rules were imposed.
