Opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has been acquitted of rape charges.
However, a court has sentenced him to two years in prison for “corrupting youth”.

Sonko, was accused of raping a woman in 2021.
His detention has led to weeks of violent protests and widespread unrest.
His supporters say the trial is politically motivated by his rivals including president Macky Sall.
They insist it's a ploy to prevent Sonko from running for office next year.

Let's go live with Al Jazeera’s Nicolas Haque in Dakar, Senegal.
And next we bring in Adama Gaye. He is a Senegalese Author and Journalist. He is also Former Director of Information at ECOWAS. He joins us from Dusseldorf, Germany.
