Mark Arcand, brother of Bonnie Burns, one of the victims of the Saskatchewan stabbing rampage on James Smith Cree Nation, shared memories of his sister during a press conference on Wednesday.

He said family values were paramount for her and described her as a “hero” and not a victim as she was stabbed while trying to protect her sons.

“She always put other people before her. That’s what we want people to remember,” he said.

Arcand recalled disturbing details of the moments he learned of his sister’s stabbing, and what he saw at one of the crime scenes.

The family has launched a GoFundMe page to support the children in healing from the trauma they suffered and asked people to support their efforts.
