U.S. President Joe Biden warned Monday that if Russia invades Ukraine there would “no longer” be a Nordstream 2; a natural gas pipeline network that would run under the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stopped short of saying Germany would pull out of the project, but said his country and the U.S. are “unified” in their approach to Russia.
Putin has in the past said attacks on Nordstream 2 were “unjustified,” calling it an economic project. But the buildup of over 100,000 Russian troops near the border with Ukraine has Western countries worried about a possible invasion and they have warned of a strong response if Russia were to take that step.
