Four people are confirmed dead, four more hospitalised and 68 remain unaccounted for following the partial collapse of a 10-storey residential building after a gas explosion in Magnitogorsk on Monday, local EMERCOM reports.
Early on Monday morning, an entire section of a tower block in Magnitogorsk collapsed, causing dozens to be trapped under debris in freezing conditions.
A woman who lives close by said she heard an explosion at around 06:00 local time (01:00 GMT).
"We thought somebody threw a firecracker onto our balcony. I jumped out - there were no windows, no glass, and saw this," she said, adding "we couldn't reach any emergency services by phone, all the lines were busy."
One thousand three hundred people and 200 support vehicles and units of equipment are involved in the rescue operation, according to the local EMERCOM department. The remains of the building are also at risk of collapse.
