Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed that Tehran is not seeking to escalate tensions with Washington despite Iran's decision to partially withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal, speaking at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Wednesday.
Earlier this morning Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced a partial withdrawal from the JCPOA nuclear deal in his TV statement from Tehran. The Iranian leader set a 60-day deadline for the remaining deal signatories to come up with new terms to salvage the deal.
Rouhani's announcement falls on the first anniversary of US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the deal.
