Thousands of people hit the Bucharest streets on Sunday, after the Romanian government passed an emergency decree that critics say raises concerns over the rule of law and threatens judicial independence.
The decree is the latest in a series of legislative changes by the ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD).
The decree changes the rules on appointing chief prosecutors, which according to critics would boost the power of a widely-criticised newly established unit tasked with investigating magistrates.
Similar protests also took place in other Romanian cities, including Timisoara, Cluj, Sibiu and Iasi.
