Roe v. Wade: Biden, Democrat and GOP lawmakers react to leak of Supreme Court draft decision

Democratic and Republican politicians, including United States President Joe Biden, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, had mixed reactions to the leaked draft decision by the Supreme Court regarding Roe v. Wade.

Biden expressed concerns over the rationale given in the decision, adding that he was told it was a legitimate document, but said he was not prepared to make a judgment now on whether the filibuster in the U.S. Senate should be overturned in order to codify Roe v. Wade into law.

McConnell's comments focused on the leak itself, saying justices, clerks and staff have historically protected the court's confidentiality and that the story was not about the draft decision but the leak itself. Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski called the leak "reprehensible," and added that the Senate must work to protect women's rights.
