A robotic version of man's best friend has ventured into the area around Chernobyl, the site of the world’s worst nuclear accident.

The robot dog, named Spot, has a mission to keep an eye on radiation levels – ensuring humans are not put at risk of harmful exposure.

Currently, the robot is exploring the New Safe Confinement, a massive steel dome built over the damaged reactor, designed to prevent radiation from spreading.

Scientists will then use this data to create a comprehensive 3D map to illustrate the distribution of the harmful electromagnetic waves.
