It's an order that is straight up outrageous. Two BJP Mayors in Delhi have issued a diktat to shut down meat shops during the Navratri period. They say this is being done for "public sentiment" for the 9-day period. The East Delhi mayor has even suggested this would promote harmony. Many meat shops have had to shut down as a result, causing a big loss to their business. But what is truly offensive is that these mayors are telling us what we should and should not eat. On what basis have they decided that this is "public sentiment" at play? What happened to freedom of choice?
