Rescue efforts are underway in Haiti after a powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake killed hundreds of people, and left many more injured and missing.
Seismologist Klaus Jacob said Saturday the earthquake struck close to the surface and warned of possible aftershocks.
"This is a one-two kind of a punch. First the earthquake and now that tropical storm that's going over the island, more or less, as we speak right now,” he said.
The earthquake hit about 125 kilometres west of the capital of Port-au-Prince, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, and caused widespread damage.
