The U.S. and Britain carried out dozens of air strikes on Houthi military targets overnight on Thursday, widening a regional conflict stemming from Israel's war in Gaza.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said on Friday he believed the strikes by U.K. and the U.S. on Houthi military targets in Yemen will degrade the capability of the Iran-backed group to target ships in the Red Sea.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said, "The strikes by Houthi militia on maritime traffic on civilian and commercial vessels are absolutely unacceptable,” and added that “we support the very targeted actions taken by military assets from the U.K. and the U.S.”

Meanwhile, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan slammed the American and British strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen as a “disproportionate use of force” and accused the two countries of trying to turn the Red Sea into a "sea of blood".

Russia condemned the U.S. and U.K. for military strikes on Yemen, which Moscow said amounted to an irresponsible adventure that provoked “a destabilization of the situation throughout the Middle East.”
