Russian President Vladimir Putin was seen on state TV on Monday driving a Mercedes across the Crimean Bridge linking southern Russia to the annexed Crimean peninsula, less than two months since an explosion tore through parts of the structure.
The 12-mile road and rail bridge was personally opened by Putin in 2018 and bombed on Oct. 8 in an attack Russia claims was carried out by Ukraine, which has never claimed responsibility for the blast.
The explosion wrecked one section of the bridge road, temporarily halting traffic across the Kerch Strait. Putin also walked along parts of the structure and questioned officials when repairs would be completed. Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin said it's believed it will be repaired by Sept. 1, but they are looking to speed up that timeline.
