The US drug regulator has approved a second Covid vaccine for emergency use, boosting hopes of an end to the pandemic. The Moderna jab is being rolled out alongside the Pfizer-Biotech shot, which has also been given the green light in the UK. But despite the apparent breakthroughs, manufacturers are facing a wall of public reluctance.

The latest poll in the US showed 64% of the population are willing to get the vaccine. In Europe, a survey in the science journal 'Nature' found that only 54% of people would take the jab in France and 65% in Italy. While in the UK, more than half of respondents said they were concerned about possible side effects.
