Britain's Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, started the countdown for the 2023 Invictus Games on Tuesday in Germany.

The Invictus Games are an international multi-sport event for injured soldiers, founded by Harry in 2014.

"At its core, Invictus is about meeting our military men and women with the respect they deserve. It's about assembling not just a platform, but a home, a safe and supportive place to show the world where they are and what lives in their hearts," Harry said.

"From the first day of putting on the uniform, the men and women who represent our service community were prepared for unimaginable mental and physical stress. They were fighting for their lives, our lives, our freedoms and our democracies. They are my role models," Harry added.

After the Invictus Game had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the games will take place in September 2023 in Duesseldorf in Western Germany, instead of 2022.
