Presidential Medal of Freedom: Simone Biles, late John McCain among 17 recipients | FULL

U.S. President Joe Biden is set to award 17 recipients with the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Thursday, including decorated Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, actor Denzel Washington, Olympic soccer star and LGBTQ+ activist Megan Rapinoe, and more.

Biden will also be honouring several recipients posthumously, such as politician and Navy officer John McCain, and Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

Vice-President Kamala Harris is also set to attend the ceremony.

Biden is reportedly the first U.S. president awarding the medal who has also been a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom himself. Former president Barack Obama awarded Biden the medal a few months prior to the end of his term as president in 2016.
