Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau exchanged words on Friday after the western province introduced a “stay out of my backyard" bill, which would allow the province to veto any future deal struck between municipalities and the federal government.

“Federal politicians, and the prime minister in particular, should do his job and stop trying to do my job,” Smith said during a conservative networking conference in Ottawa.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded during a housing announcement in Vaughan, Ont. urging “those provinces that don’t want to solve the [housing crisis] problem, to just get out of the way while we solve that problem that Canadians are facing.”
