Victims of undercover police units condemned in a report have given their reaction to the inquiry's findings that the deployments were unjustified.

A trade unionist who was spied on by undercover police said the report should have serious ramifications for the Metropolitan Police.

In response, the Met admitted the report had found examples of "unacceptable and immoral behaviour by some undercover officers."

But the force said that "the great majority of deployed undercover officers and their operational managers performed their duties conscientiously and in the belief that what they were doing was lawful and in the interests of the public."

In response, the Met reiterated its apologies and conceded a "legacy of hurt" had been caused by the "unacceptable and immoral behaviour" of some officers, but said undercover policing has been transformed and is nothing like it was decades ago.
