In his first speech to the Conservative caucus since securing the leadership, Pierre Poilievre demanded that Prime Minister Trudeau not raise taxes “on workers and seniors.”

Poilievre was elected leader of the Conservative Party of Canada with a resounding first-ballot victory, garnering 68 per cent support.

Poilievre told members that under his leadership the Tories would “work with any party” but said he would “not support any new tax increases.”

“We will fight tooth and nail to stop the coalition (with the NDP) from introducing any,” he added.

During his speech to members, Poilievre highlighted the increasing cost of living facing many Canadians as they contend with rising inflation.
