Poilievre says kids' pain medication shortage forcing parents across the border

Speaking during question period in the House of Commons on Monday, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said that Canadian parents were being forced to travel across the border to the U.S. to secure children’s pain medication in the face of domestic shortages.

Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos responded that the government will be partnering with producers to increase production and import additional supplies and that new shipments will be available for retail purchase “in the coming weeks.

Referring to rising inflation and energy costs, Poilievre also questioned whether the federal government will consider cancelling the carbon tax that will “triple” costs.

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said that the government’s economic approach is based on being “compassionate and fiscally responsible,” while the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Sean Fraser said that “putting a price on pollution” is vital following recent extreme weather events as seen on the east coast.
