Both Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations (UN) and the Palestinian Foreign Minister addressed the General Assembly’s joint debate on the Israel-Gaza conflict on Thursday.

Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan defended his country’s aerial bombardment of Gaza, stating that Israel “would never apologize for defending its citizens.”

Erdan said Israel’s war “is not on the Palestinians” but on Gaza’s ruling group Hamas.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki, meanwhile, described Israel as an “occupying power” and questioned whether it should have the right to defend itself “when a whole people under occupation is deprived of the very same right.”

He accused the international community of “turning a blind eye to the genocide of whole Palestinian families.”
