Ottawa slightly increases allowable cod fishing catch, calls it 'historic return' of fishery

The federal government has approved a small increase in the total allowable catch for the commercial cod fishery, calling the move an end to the 32-year moratorium on northern cod fishing. But 2024's total allowable catch of 18,000 tonnes is a far cry from the 250,000 tonnes allowed in the late 1980s.
