On a day when smoke from wildfires in Ontario and Quebec hung in the air in Toronto, those in cottage country were urged not to burn as fire bans were put in place in several communities.

As of Tuesday, there were 47 forest fires burning throughout the province.
“We’re asking people, really, don’t burn, there’s really no need to burn,” said one official.

Meanwhile, Environment Canada issued an air quality statement for the Toronto area, warning about the risks of breathing wildfire smoke.
Sean O’Shea has more on how the wildfires are impacting air quality in the city, while Shallima Maharaj reports on the situation in cottage country.
