The omicron variants of the coronavirus spreads like wildfire in the UK. On Wednesday, the UK recorded its highest ever daily number of coronavirus cases, more than 78,600. That’s around 10,000 more than the previous high in January, with the highly-transmissible Omicron variant fueling the surge in cases. A senior British health chief called Omicron "probably the most significant threat" since the start of the pandemic. This week UK lawmakers voted to toughen coronavirus measures, including introducing COVID-19 passes for some venues.
