October 6, 2022: Ex-cop kills 22 children in Thailand, California family kidnapped found dead, Ukraine, Oath Keeper, EU

1. A former policeman killed 38 people, including 22 children, in a knife and gun rampage at a daycare centre in Thailand, later shooting dead his wife and child at their home before turning his weapon on himself, police said.

2. Four members of a California family, including an 8-month-old girl, were found dead in a rural area after they were abducted in the city of Merced, authorities said.

3. A Russian missile demolished an apartment block in a Ukrainian region that Moscow says it has annexed, killing at least one woman, as the Ukrainian military forged ahead with its drive to recapture land in the south and east.

4. Prosecutors are expected to call fresh witnesses on Thursday as they argue their case in the trial of Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes and four co-defendants for their alleged role in the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol.

5. The European Union and its neighbors from Britain to Turkey met on Thursday to discuss shared security and energy problems stemming from Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in a rare and symbolic summit of 44 European countries - but not Russia.
