The Nova Scotia government is putting partisanship aside to make changes to the province’s labour laws in order to better support women and their partners who suffer a miscarriage or stillbirth.
The expansion on the province’s bereavement leave laws was inspired by the daughter of a Liberal MLA whose daughter experienced a tragic loss.
Elizabeth Cushing’s daughter, who they named Ruby, was stillborn at 32 weeks.
“I loved her. I love her, and she will always be my daughter,” Cushing told Global News.
Ross Lord has the details on the new law and the parents who inspired it.
