Following a successful military campaign between the Mozambican army and Rwandan forces to seize strategic towns from fighters in northeastern Mozambique, residents are returning to their homes.
While a sense of calm has been restored, some say they do not feel safe under the protection of the Mozambican police.
According to locals, some officers, during their battles with armed groups in the area, became violent towards them.

Al Jazeera’s Fahmida Miller reports.
