Residents in a Ukrainian village about 30 km from Kharkiv spoke on Saturday about surviving an attack by Russian forces which badly damaged many homes last month.

Yakovlivka village has a population of about 600. According to local media, it was bombed overnight on March 3 with around 40 homes damaged.

Police told local media that four people had been killed and 14 injured in the attack.

"We were in the house. We ran out. We didn’t hear the first hit. But when there were next ones. We ran out," said local resident 66-year-old Vera Babenko, whose home was partly destroyed.

“Nobody believed that after such an explosion anyone could survive,” Vera's son Yury added, looking at a bomb crater just yards from the building.

Russia denies attacking civilians.
