A day after getting booted from question period in the House of Commons after calling the prime minister a 'wacko,' Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre continued to push the Trudeau government to quickly end a three-year pilot project in British Columbia that will decriminalize possession of small amounts of certain illegal drugs, including heroin, fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Trudeau responded that the government is working with the province after B.C. Premiere David Eby asked Health Canada to recriminalize the use of drugs in public spaces such as hospitals and parks.

“There is no time to waste,” said Poilievre, suggesting that six people die in B.C. every day because of overdoses.

Both Trudeau and Poilievre accused the other of playing politics when it comes to the opioid crisis in Canada.

Poilievre also demanded that Trudeau reject the city of Toronto’s request for an exemption from federal drug laws, which would see a small amount of illegal drugs decriminalized in Canada’s largest city.
