While the Hijab controversy plays out in Karnataka, a school in Kolkata has proved that religion need not be a barrier to education at all students - from pre-primary to Class IV, many from the Muslim community - walked into a Kali temple to attend classes while their parents kept an eye on them. As part of the post Covid open-air classes outside the school classrooms initiated by the state, students – around 90% of them being Muslims, began their first day of school after a two year Covid break inside the premises of a Kali Mandir in the Taltala area of Kolkata. Those in charge of the temple said education was for all and that they didnt discriminate against students on the basis of their religion.
