For Victory Day, Russians from Moscow to St. Petersburg came out on Monday for the annual commemoration of Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.

Residents had mixed views about the celebrations and ongoing Ukrainian war, with some showing patriotism and support while others expressed concern for the civilians in Ukraine and national conscription.

“No enemy will break us,” said one resident of Moscow. “We are the country that won't bow before anybody."

This year's parade and memorial events have sparked controversy around the world, as Russian forces continue what Moscow calls its “special military operation” in Ukraine.
