New fires spark in California as crews hope for weather change

In the United States, firefighters battled to save homes in San Bernardino in Southern California as two new wildfires swept through the state. Hundreds fled the roaring flames.

The dry Santa Ana winds from the desert have been blamed for fanning the fires and authorities have issued an alert level in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

However, in northern California which has seen wildfires for over a week, the situation was slightly better as hundreds of firefighters managed to control most of a major blaze.

Al Jazeera's Priyanka Gupta reports.
