After the emergence of a new variant of the coronavirus in the UK and another one in South Africa, scientists and technical experts at the World Health Organisation have said the variants may have arisen at the same time but are indeed different. They also feel there is no evidence to suggest at the moment that the new variants are more lethal, adding the need of the hour is to suppress transmission.
