Myanmar coup: Protesters flee from tear gas, rubber bullets in police confrontation

Several anti-coup protesters were injured when police in Loikaw, Myanmar, used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse them on March 9, local media reported. The police were also confronted by two clerics ahead of the dispersion.

Footage captured by Kayah Liphu Youths showed protesters with makeshift shields falling back into clouds of tear gas, with shots being heard from afar.

Meanwhile, marches against the military crackdown continued in several cities across the country, over a month after the army takeover and arrest of elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Security forces have killed over 60 protesters and detained more than 1,800 since then, an advocacy group said.
