Residents reeling from a shooting at a grocery store in Buffalo, N.Y. held vigils, prayer services and rallies across the city on Sunday after the racially-motivated killing spree took the lives of 10 people and wounded three others.

Police said the 18-year-old suspect, who is now in custody, had driven to the city heavily armed with an intent to target Black residents, posting a manifesto about his plan, and livestreaming the assault.

Eleven of the 13 people who were shot Saturday at the Tops Friendly Markets were Black, according to Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia.

“I'm devastated, and just completely saddened and mourning. My spirit is mourning for my city and for my people,” said a local resident.

The suspect was charged with murder and officials said they will weigh additional charges in the coming days.

The FBI is investigating the shooting as a hate crime and racially-motivated violent extremism.
