Villagers in Indonesia's East Java are calling on the government to provide assistance in relocation as soon as possible after many had to evacuate their homes following Mt. Semeru's violent eruption on Sunday, which sent ash onto surrounding fields, roads and bridges.
"My status now is living in a temporary shelter to store my things," said Maryam, one of the affected villagers.
According to officials, the volcano which erupted some 640 kilometres east of the capital of Jakarta was still seeing high volcanic activity.
The eruption followed a series of earthquakes in the west of Java, including one last month that killed more than 300 people. However, as of Monday, no casualties had been reported so far from the volcano.
