Authorities from Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) provided an update early Sunday on the shooting at a rally that injured former president Donald Trump.
“This evening we had what we’re calling an assassination attempt against our former president, Donald Trump,” stated Kevin Rojeck, FBI Special Agent in Charge at the Pittsburgh Field Office. “We do not currently have an identified motive although our investigators are working tirelessly to identify what that motive was,” Rojeck added.
“Law enforcement, I believe, acted heroically quickly identifying and neutralizing the threat as well as responding to assist various victims,” said PSP Deputy Commissioner of Operations Lt. Col. George Bivens. He added, “At this time we have no reason to believe there is any other existing threat out there.”
Asked about reports that people in the crowd had noticed the shooter on the roof and tried to alert authorities, Bivens said “I am aware of those (reports) and I am aware that law enforcement had responded to a number of reports of suspicious activity. Yes, law enforcement was responding to check on several suspicious occurrences.”
