Minister warns society has an 'amnesia' over horrors of war | Election 2024

Veterans minister Johnny Mercer has told Sky News the "scale of sacrifice and endeavour" by those who fought at Normandy 80 years ago "blows your mind".

But he also warned that the UK had become "dangerously complacent" about the threat of a European conflict.

He said the country needed to be "shaken out of its complacency" and the Conservative Party's proposed policy of national service was a good idea.
