Millions face huge hikes to energy bills as cap raised to £3,549

Millions of households will see their energy bills rise by as much as 80% as the price cap is hiked to £3,549 a year.

The new cap will come into place in October and will see a typical default tariff customer paying an extra £1,578 a year.

But that is likely to increase to nearly £5,000 a year in January.
