The BJP want to win the Manipur polls with absolute majority this time and form a government all by its own. But many watchers believe that BJP's biggest challenge will not be Congress, but its own ally - Conrad Sangma's National People's Party. In 2017, NPP contested on only 9 seats and won 4. The party's tally helped BJP form a coalition government in the state. In the upcoming polls, NPP plans to contest at least 40 of the 60 seats in the Manipur assembly. Many leaders from BJP and Congress have shifted to NPP. In an exclusive interview to NDTV's Ratnadip Choudhury, NPP's National President and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma says that the agenda for his party in Manipur is clear - to seek a mandate to lead the government and not be a mere coalition partner.
