1. U.S. President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy could not reach an agreement on the government’s debt ceiling with just days before a possible default that could since the U.S. economy.

2. Fighting in Russia’s Belgorod region enters a second day after an incursion from what Russia calls ‘Ukrainian armed groups.’ Kyiv has denied any role and said the attackers are Russian citizens.

3. Text messages seen by Reuters detail a close relationship between Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Lev Parnas, a Ukrainian-American businessman accused of illegally funneling a Russian oligarch’s money into U.S. political campaigns. In 2018, Parnas was a well-known figure in Trump’s orbit, often seen with his attorney Rudy Giuliani. 

4. TikTok has filed a lawsuit challenging Montana’s new ban on the app. It is the first U.S. state to bar the popular short-video sharing service.

5. The driver of a truck has been detained after crashing into security barriers near the White House. A Reuters witness said investigators found a Nazi swastika flag that apparently came from inside the truck.
