Speaking to the media on Saturday, Corporal Julie Courchaine of the Manitoba RCMP provided updates about a “random” kidnapping in the Portage La Prairie area that took place on Friday.

According to the police, the incident involved a two-year-old child and a 25-year-old woman, who were both safely recovered.

Courchaine identified the suspect as a 62-year-old male who was previously known to authorities, but did not disclose details on past warrants.

RCMP requested the assistance of the public in locating the man they believe to be the suspect, releasing a photo of the individual after the press conference. Charges included kidnapping, forcible confinement, assault on police and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
