Freebies Issue: चुनाव में मुफ्त की योजनाओं की घोषणा पर सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने अहम आदेश दिया है. कोर्ट ने 2013 में इसी मसले पर आए एक फैसले की समीक्षा की मांग मान ली है. अगर कोर्ट 'एस सुब्रमण्यम बालाजी बनाम तमिलनाडु सरकार' मामले में आए इस फैसले को पलट देता है, तो राजनीतिक पार्टियों के लिए चुनाव में मुफ्त की घोषणाएं करना काफी कठिन हो जाएगा.
क्या है मामला?
बीजेपी नेता और वकील अश्विनी उपाध्याय समेत कई याचिकाकर्ताओं ने मुफ्त की चीजें बांटने का वादा करने वाली पार्टियों की मान्यता रद्द करने की मांग की है. उनकी याचिका में कहा गया है कि इस तरह की घोषणाएं एक तरह से मतदाता को रिश्वत देने जैसी बात है. यह न सिर्फ चुनाव में प्रत्याशियों को असमान स्थिति में खड़ा कर देती हैं, बल्कि चुनाव के बाद सरकारी ख़ज़ाने पर भी अनावश्यक बोझ डालती हैं. इस याचिका पर सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने 25 जनवरी को नोटिस जारी किया था.

What's the matter?
Several petitioners, including BJP leader and lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay, have sought de-recognition of parties promising to distribute freebies. It has been said in his petition that such announcements are in a way like bribing the voter. This not only puts the candidates in an unequal position in the elections, but also puts unnecessary burden on the government exchequer after the election. On this petition, the Supreme Court had issued notice on 25 January.
