The Conservative party's former vice-chairman has criticised Lee Anderson for his comments about London mayor Sadiq Khan.

Mr Anderson, the former deputy Tory chairman, said last week he believed "Islamists" had "got control" of Mr Khan.

"His comments are completely unacceptable… this is why we have to be careful in politics," said Rehman Chishti.

Mr Chishti also accused Rishi Sunak of breaking a personal promise to tackle Islamophobia in the party.
