Lebanon’s Higher Judicial Council has failed to appoint an alternate judge in the Beirut port explosion in 2020.
The move was a win for the victims’ families who have been demanding justice for nearly three years. Family members said that Lebanon's leadership was trying to appoint a judge who was politically aligned with them to further obstruct the case.
The battle is not over as the investigation remains blocked, with officials filing lawsuits against the lead investigator to prevent him from proceeding with his inquiry.
