Germany’s rich film history is not as celebrated with DVD releases as often as it might be, so two reissues of little seen films are worth pointing out.
Earliest of the two is 1926’s silent “The Holy Mountain,” one of the nature-loving series of mountain dramas directed by Arnold Fanck. This one stars Leni Riefenstahl, later better known as the director of “Olympia” and “Triumph of the Will.”
Also available is the 1943 version of “Titanic,” made decades before the James Cameron version and featuring disaster footage so good it was used years later in “A Night To Remember.” - Kenneth Turan
