1. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi formally named Republican Representative Adam Kinzinger to serve on a select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

2. Crews and officials battle a large fire that has incinerated more than 77,000 hectares in northern California. The Dixie fire joined with another one nearby on Saturday night, and firefighters have struggled to contain the blazes that have triggered evacuations in several communities.

3. The lead U.S. Republican negotiator on an infrastructure plan said he hoped for a detailed agreement sometime this week despite a dispute over spending on mass transit, but a Democratic source said several other issues were also unresolved.

4. Tunisia faced its worst crisis in a decade of democracy after President Kais Saied ousted the government and froze parliament with help from the army in a move denounced as a coup by the main parties.

5. Rescue teams in India were digging through thick sludge and debris to find over 60 people trapped in landslides caused by torrential monsoon rains that have so far claimed more than 160 lives in four days.
