Jordan is one of the biggest critics of Israel’s occupation of the Palestinians, and remember that they hold a key position in occupied East Jerusalem, in that they are the custodians of the holy site, the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

And while they have been not only critics of the occupation, they’ve been critics of Israel’s war on Gaza, so their role within the region is quite crucial for aiding the Palestinians in any sort of conversations.

Their position at the ICJ will speak about the consequences that Israel’s brutal occupation has had on Palestinians, not only in the occupied West Bank but also in occupied East Jerusalem.

Just yesterday, our team was at the Damascus Gate, by the Old City in Jerusalem, and we saw it first-hand. We saw a checkpoint that was set up by Israeli forces that was just for Palestinians, while Israeli Jews were able to bypass it from the side with no check or questioning.

The consequences of this occupation run deep, and it’s something that Jordan is going to continuously voice at the ICJ.

Al Jazeera’s Hamdah Salhut has the latest development in the occupied East Jerusalem, where the old city is at the heart of Israeli occupation and the conflict.
