2023 has been such a big year that it's possible to forget it began with Cyclone Hale, and then Cyclone Gabrielle.



When Gabrielle hit, causing so much loss and damage, the Gisborne Tairāwhiti region had two senior MPs, both in government. Meka Whaitiri in Ikaroa-Rāwhiti and Kiritapu Allan in the East Coast electorate.



Both are now gone.
